Frugal living tips: 5 things I'm no longer buying in this year!

Want to save but have no idea what you can stop buying?

The current  pandemic has really been an eye-opener on how incredibly important it is to save for an unexpected emergency.

Most of the time we take things for granted like assuming that we will always be employed, and receiving a monthly income. But the truth is, that is definitely not the case. Life situations can change overnight, I am sure you have noticed that during this pandemic thousands of people lost their livelihood's.

The sad reality is that, most people didn't plan for this nor did they have the savings to fall back on. This is why frugal living is so important it allows people to save, it doesn't matter what your income bracket is everyone can do it.

Having a back up plan is always important, having emergency savings to use incase you loose your job. When I look back I feel fortunate enough to know that my family is protected financially because taking the time to plan for emergencies can ensure your survival for the future.

Being at home during quarantine I had  enough time to re evaluate all aspects of my life. I discovered 5 things that I no longer need to buy this year:

1. Clothing
Digging through my wardrobe I have realized I have tons of clothes, I went through each item and decided if I want to keep it or donate it, now I only kept items that I know I love and will use and gives me value.

The rest was gladly added to the donation box. We have to much of clothes, because we are always shopping make time to look through your closets and use what you have.

2. Cleaning detergent
Why buy cleaning detergent when you can make your own simple cleaner. I  used a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda to clean my counter tops. It is clean it still sparkles and saves me a ton. I just love the smell of lemons in my kitchen.

3. A new cellphone every year
Having a new cellphone every year is overrated. Frugal people don't waste money on the latest technology but rather invest it and earn interest. Why would I buy something that will depreciate the next day.

4. Takeout
Cooking and meal planning saves me so much of money. I am not randomly feeling the urge to call for take out and buy things that I did not plan for or need. Frugal people meal plan because they know this is a simple way to avoid temptation and it allows their bank account to grow. You are feeding your family why not feed your bank account as well.

5. Makeup
Where am I going? It doesn't look like I am going  anywhere anytime soon so why spend money on makeup that no one will see. Decluttering and using what I already have is the best way to save money. I am using  it until every drop is finished before I even think about buying new  makeup.

In conclusion
Learning to simplify our lives and live on less is the most important thing we can do during this economic crisis. It will definitely take a few years to recover so we need to be prepared.

What did you stop buying this year?
